In St Augustine, you can grab your favorite dessert downtown and walk it right down to the Bayfront, starting your getaway or capping off an amazing vacation journey. We cover our five favorite local St. Augustine sweet treat destinations open 100% for 2021.

The Hyppo

The Hyppo is delightful. This sweet spot merges inventive concepts with an age-old concept: the popsicle.

Fresh, natural; gourmet popsicles in St. Augustine treat visitors of all ages. The popsicle itself is a nostalgic wonder and something many people have grown up loving. And now, they yearn for it! The ideas behind each popsicle are often unique and inventive. The concoctions include Dark Roast Espresso, Pineapple Orange, Blackberry Limeade, Peanut Butter Pie, and Watermelon Hibiscus, among at least 30 others at any given time. In all, the Hyppo has experimented with thousands of different flavors.

The popsicles are fresh and fun, with dairy-free options available. The Hyppo has two locations, both in downtown St. Augustine. The first is on 70 George St and the second is on 48 Charlotte. Both are open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with an extended hour to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The previous location outside downtown is currently closed.

And that’s not all. Visitors can opt for an on-site tour of the Whetstones Chocolate Factory. Sign in at the front store and be ushered to the next-door factory, where you can grab a taste of different concoctions and see how the magic is made.

The factory store is open daily, Monday to Sunday: 9:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. In addition, you can find just store locations on the island at 13 Anastasia Blvd as well as the downtown district at 42 St. George Street.

Cousteau’s Waffle & Milkshake Bar

Marine enthusiasts will adore the design and aesthetic of Cousteau’s Waffle and Milkshake Bar. Cousteau’s models its location on the work of French marine conservationist Jacques Cousteau. Waffles and shakes are named after his friends and boats. Cousteau artwork covers the walls.

And of course, you can grab a massive dessert waffle, like the Plimpton, with blueberry, whipped cream, and honey, the Matching Pajamas waffle ice cream sandwich, and the Life on Mars, a coconut-coated and espresso covered masterpiece of yum.

Milkshakes are equally as ambitious. Again, we suggest you dive deep into their menu and try one of the many delicious offerings. Cousteau’s is open Sunday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. It’s located at 15 Hypolita St in downtown.
