Piers and Bridges

If you want something quick and accessible, we recommend our best fishing piers located conveniently on St. Augustine’s gorgeous beaches. There’s the Vilano Beach St. Augustine Fishing Pier on the northern side of town. North of historic St. George, and over the Vilano Bridge, rests this cozy and quiet fishing escape. It is a great place to escape the noise if you prefer your fishing to be more isolated and quiet.

On the other side of the spectrum is the Bridge of Lions for your St. Augustine fishing. Undoubtedly, the Bridge of Lions offers the most captivating views of the city. With downtown to your side and the Matanzas River below you, you can nab some awesome fish. The Bridge of Lions is a historic site, but the steady driving traffic over the bridge keeps it a bustling place to fish.

For a nice middle-ground, we suggest you check out the St. Johns County Ocean Pier. It offers the best pier ocean fishing in the city. We have St. Augustine beachfront rentals right in the area.

Fishing Charters

The best way to ensure fishing success in unfamiliar waters is to use a local fishing guide.  Not only are they experts in local fishing knowledge, but they also have the equipment, the boats, and many years experience in our local waters.

If you are interested in fishing inshore, close to land, among the many local streams and waterways, then we suggest Full House Fishing Charters. Whether you are looking to catch trout, redfish, sheepshead, or flounder…Captain Scott will put you on the fish!

If offshore, full-day trips are what interest you, then you need to go with our Captain Adam Jeffery at Reel Dream Fishing Charters.  These trips include heading 50 miles offshore to target big snapper, grouper, amberjack, and Mahi.

Fishing in deep waters over reefs provides the opportunity to catch a wide variety of fish and guarantees full coolers and the end of your trip.

A State Park

Anastasia State Park in St. Augustine’s most epic and large park escape. It’s 1,600 acres of hiking trails, wetland fishing, and nature expeditions. It makes up almost the entirety of St. Augustine’s eastern coastline. With at least 20 different fishing holes, you can find your own little nook away from the noise and fish the day away. Entrance by vehicle is allowed and school groups are common if you and the family want to hop along and learn about the wild and plant life.

Fishing Laws

No matter where you fish, you have to get your Florida fishing license. Fortunately, you can get one online. Simply select your timeframe based on how long you expect to stay in the city. It can vary from three days ($17) to a full year ($45).

Make sure to get a Florida license if you plan to fish anywhere in St. Augustine. This includes the local piers. This does not necessarily include a fishing charter as the captain is likely licensed on behalf of a group of about six.
