Check Out the Best St. Augustine Coffee Shops on Your Vacation

You can’t live without coffee. As you hustle and bustle along the streets of St. Augustine, hitting all the top historic attractions and hanging out at the beach, you have to make sure you nail down your local coffee stops. Fortunately, we’ve done the legwork for you. Below you will find our four favorite coffee shops in historic St. Augustine, FL.

Kookaburra

Kookaburra is the king of coffee in St. Augustine. With the most renowned brew in the city and an assortment of seasonal flavors, Kookaburra brings its Australian charms to the ancient city. There are four locations in St. Augustine and they are all uniformly scattered. You will find one at the end of St. George St in the historic district, one in town at a major intersection (route 312 and US-1) and conveniently located next to the beach. One St. Augustine Beach location can be found just a few miles from our St. Augustine vacation rentals.

Their specialty coffee menu is refined. Our favorites include the Honeybadger with honey and vanilla, as well as the Mocha Coconut. Many of the syrups are made in-house for that extra level of uniqueness.

Kookaburra specializes in high-quality coffee, but you can also find a modest selection of pastries, including donuts, muffins, and cookies. There are also special egg, cheese, and meat Aussie-styled pies available.

Kookaburra is typically open until 9 p.m. Take any St. Augustine vacation up a notch with a Hot Aussie (latte with vanilla) and a True Blue Aussie Pie.

Crucial Coffee Café

Crucial Coffee is relatively new to the St. Augustine scene. But in just a few short years, Crucial really made an impact. Its old school house charms and stellar location near the direct center of St. George St downtown make it a local favorite. Crucial delivers an array of exemplary teas, coffees, and cold drinks.

You will fall in love with the exterior- a modest and cozy little wood shack across the street from the historic Castillo de San Marcos fort. Outside a top-tier coffee brew, you have smoothies, chai tea lattes, tapioca pearls, bubble tea, and a number of breakfast sandwiches. While Kookaburra focuses primarily on coffee, Crucial leans into the pastry and breakfast selections a bit more. It is a great place to grab a snack to hold you over until dinner at one of the amazing restaurants in St. Augustine.

You can also nab a lovely yet simple milkshake as you peruse downtown!

Crucial Coffee is also open late, 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, and 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday.

City Bistro Tea House and Coffee Company

Once a humble coffee shop, City Bistro recently underwent a grand reinvention. The restaurant combined its forces with the locally-respected and renowned Scratch Kitchen, elevating the quality of both locations and placing a deeper emphasis on local food.

With a new planned strategy and a greater focus on the café side of dining, City Bistro has boosted its menu dramatically and introduced a wider breadth of menu options. This includes far more options for vegans and vegetarians to complement their wide selection of quality lattes. Highlights include the Salmon Bagel, the Breakfast Burger using Beyond Burger, and Farmhand Waffles. Between bagel breakfast sandwiches, burritos, and burgers, there’s a lot to love. Enjoy it all over some sweet jams. City Bistro is unique in that it features music most weekends.

City Bistro is located at 1280 N Ponce de Leon Blvd, also known as US-1.

St. Augustine Coffee House

The St. Augustine Coffee House is quiet and quaint, giving you a relaxing Old World European aesthetic over simple espresso. The vibe here is straightforward and the menu cuts out the fluff. Order from a refined selection of pastries and stick with a rich and full-bodied cup of coffee.

There’re also some alternative drink selections, like a seasonal mimosa or frozen sangria. The Coffee House even includes a special hand-selected rotation of craft beers. It is located right in downtown, at 6 St George St #107, so it is conveniently located near our St. Augustine beach rentals.
