Enjoy the Fresh Air at These St. Augustine Restaurants with Outdoor Seating

When you’re by the beachfront looking for fun things to do in St. Augustine, the first thing that will likely come to your mind is food. After all, you’ll be eating a few meals while you’re out here, and if you’re like most, you savor something well-cooked and high-quality. Thankfully, you don’t have to do all the research yourself. The following places should curb your hunger and give you a taste of what’s good in this area, starting with the locally popular Sunset Grille on A1A Beach Boulevard.

Be sure to check out a couple of these restaurants while staying in our St. Augustine vacation rentals!

Sunset Grille

Enjoy warm weather during the summer as you sit down on the patio to enjoy a nice chicken & waffles dish next to your hungry spouse and kids; it makes a perfect Saturday morning breakfast for anyone of any age! They top it with some of the freshest, drizzling honey syrup along with some Ranch sauce on the side for dipping those chicken pieces. Don’t leave without having at least a bite of the Dang Datil Shrimp (given its name because it’s just dang good!), which comes with half a pound of locally sourced shrimp covered in the creamiest, warmest Datil sauce you can imagine.

Sundays to Thursdays, you can come in from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. (or from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday). Enjoy their beachy vibe with live TV and an ocean view!

Beachcomber

Come in any day (11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with happy hour from 3-6 p.m. on Monday through Thursday) to get a taste of breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner either inside or outside. If you choose to be seated outdoors, you will experience some elegant dune-side picnic tables that will relax your mind and give you a view of the beach. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience! You have to try it, and bigger is better here (meaning it’s more fun when you bring a bigger crew along).

If you’re not hungry yet, get your appetite fired up with some blackened Datil Wings. Or, you could start with their Santos-seared tuna, which comes with two large pieces of tuna, enough to give a family of four great value for their money and a taste of what’s fresh in the area.

The Floridian

Perhaps you’re craving something else hot and juicy. Then stop in at The Floridian, where you can ease your mind by looking at the colorful, kitschy décor and the happy staff waiting to welcome you inside. Visit from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday or from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

Try their modern menu of Southern grub, all locally sourced and made with love and care. Get a personal feel, from each waiter and host, of what Southern hospitality and friendliness are all about. Not in the mood for Southern food? Branch out with the Shrimp Banh Mi Po Boy. It offers some of the tastiest rice shrimp known to locals! They flour-dust it, fry it, and then throw it on a soft hoagie roll and add some Miso Aioli for flavor and texture. They serve it with cilantro, datil jam, and pickled veggies.

Back 40 Urban Café

The Back 40 Urban Café offers internationally inspired meals within a cozy, relaxed environment made for smaller to medium-sized crowds. If you like space and privacy, this might be the eatery for you when you’re in St. Augustine. They’re open from 11-8 Tuesday through Saturday and from 11-7 on Sunday.

You can do take-out and bring your food back to your rental, but we recommend dining there on the patio. Residents call this eatery the perfect Tex Mex restaurant here, and it’s got all kinds of tempting meals for any age or taste. Here, you can get your choice of Jerk Chicken Nachos with the veggies, salsa, tortilla shell, and dressing of your liking. Add a whole avocado for a little extra indulgence (and they can cut it up into perfectly even slices right in front of you).

Catch 27

Catch 27, open only during evenings and nights, is a slightly upscale venue that is great for enjoying an evening with your friends. Come in and eat a hearty small plate like the Deviled Egg BLT w/Southern Fried Oyster (gluten-free and comes with fresh tomato-bacon jam, made in-house, and micro-greens).

If you’re free to stop in Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, they’re open from 5-9 p.m. on Friday or Saturday, you can catch them open from 3-10 p.m. Or drop in on any Sunday from 3-9 p.m. If you’re a classic cocktail lover, then you’ll love Catch 27’s Sangria (white or red selections), Mojito crafted with pure cane sugar, fresh lime, and mint, all in a light rum blend, or Old-Fashioned Cocktail with freshly mixed bourbon, bitters, and cane sugar.

Mango Mango’s Bar & Grill

Mango Mango’s Bar & Grill (open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Saturday or 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m. on Sunday; 3-6 p.m. happy hour daily) is an island-style grill and bar that offers a whole range of Caribbean and American seafood selections just one block away from the ocean. You can see the beach and more as you sit down for some Teriyaki Chicken Kabobs, glazed in delicate teriyaki sauce, alongside some pineapple chunks, red bell peppers, and Caribbean rice.

If your family or friends have never tasted Coconut shrimp (specifically made locally) in their life, then now is the time to try Mango Mango’s one and only Coconut Shrimp, which includes six hand-battered pieces). They roll it in sweet-flavored coconut breading and serve it with a side of Mango Colada sauce, which you can pour generously at your leisure. Add some Conch Fritters to the mix for extra fun! After feasting on a scrumptious meal, stop at any of these fine breweries for some drinks.
